Imagine B-5G
The work presented as part of the IMAGINE-B5G project has received funding from the EU’s Horizon-JU-SNS 2022, grant agreement 101096452
IMAGINE-B5G project aims to create an advanced and accessible end-to-end (E2E) 5G platform for Large-Scale Trials and Pilots, providing a set of B5G applications, enabled by the integration of advanced 5G disrupting technologies. The project will support 3GPP Rel- 17 and beyond features which are crucial for implementation of private networks under real-life operational conditions to enable advanced 5G services which are driven by the industrial needs and requirements of a wide variety of verticals.
Expected Impact
The IMAGINE-B5G E2E facility fuels testing and experimentation of core technologies and architectures, facilitating innovative services and businesses, and become a key enabler for future B5G vertical services and applications.
The IMAGINE-B5G project expect to have a huge impact world-wide among vertical industries by:
equipping European verticals with facilities that will increase their ability for innovation, digitalisation, and driving European economies;
deploying concurrent trials which will serve to prove that operators are able to deliver on the stringent technical requirements of new B5G/6G applications;
using its pilots with verticals and cross-vertical industries to demonstrate Europe’s B5G evolution and leadership in advanced 5G technologies and architectures;
preparing and maximising widespread acceptance and adoption by end-users of B5G solutions in European economies
Telenor’s 5G advanced Experimentation Platform
Telenor’s 5G advanced Experimentation Platform in IMAGINE-B5G includes a central site in Fornebu as well as several edge and RAN sites across Norwaye, e.g., Svalbard. The capabilities that the facility initially supported were are as follows: (i) E2E network slicing (eMBB, URLLC, mMTC) with the option of customized network slice, (ii) E2E network orchestration and service orchestration, (iii) cloud-native infrastructure, (iv) next generation 5G RAN, (v) 5G standalone (SA) multivendor core, (vi) next generation Firewall as a service. The platform also contains several mobile networks on wheels, and has been continuously improved in the project lifespan.
