Edge Cloud

Edge Cloud brings cloud computing resources closer to where data is generated and used. Instead of hosting applications in a central datacenter far away, it brings them closer to their user bases. This means faster service response times and more efficient use of network resources

What is Edge Cloud

An Edge Cloud is a small-scale datacenter(from 1 server/workstation) equipped with computing resources (CPU, GPU, RAM, Storage) that can be placed either on the customer’s premises or geographically distributed across regions. This enables service providers to deploy their applications closer to the end-users. It is important to note that if traffic goes over the 5G network, an Edge Cloud should be integrated with a co-located or nearby Local Breakout Edge (also known as Telco Edge) in order to keep the traffic locally.

Edge Cloud's role in 5G

An Edge Cloud not only provides a platform for hosting applications at the “edge” of the network, it can also offer task offloading services for end-user devices.
